Hi! I’m Laura, an experienced and passionate tour guide with a deep love for Newcastle upon Tyne.
After taking a break during the pandemic to explore a different path, I’m excited to return to guiding and share the energy, history, and beauty of this incredible city with you.
Why Newcastle Upon Tyne?
Newcastle is one of the true gems of North East England, rich in history and full of character.
The story of the city begins with the Romans and Emperor Hadrian, who built Hadrian’s Wall to mark the northern boundary of the Roman Empire. Over time, Newcastle was shaped by Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, and Normans. The name “Newcastle” comes from the castle built by the Normans in 1080, which became the foundation for the city’s growth.
In later centuries, Newcastle developed into a major port, exporting coal, wool, glass, and rope across the world. This brought wealth and transformation, giving rise to the elegant architecture you see today. The city centre is filled with stunning Victorian, Georgian, Neoclassical, and Gothic buildings, including Grey Street, often considered one of the most beautiful streets in the UK.
In more recent history, Newcastle has continued to evolve, with bold modern architecture and the construction of its seven iconic bridges across the River Tyne.
Newcastle City & Quayside Tour (3 hours)

Starting Point: Haymarket (outside Haymarket metro station)
This extended 3-hour walking tour gives you a complete experience of Newcastle, combining the historic city centre with the stunning Quayside.
We begin in Haymarket, home to the Civic Centre and its striking architecture, before exploring the heart of the city. You’ll discover key landmarks, hear fascinating stories, and understand how Newcastle developed through the centuries.
We then continue down to the Quayside, where the city truly opens up. Here you will admire Newcastle’s most famous bridges from the outside, including the Tyne Bridge, the High Level Bridge, the Millennium Bridge, and the historic Swing Bridge. Each one tells a story of engineering, ambition, and identity.
Along the Quayside, you will also see important cultural landmarks such as The Glasshouse (formerly known as The Sage) and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, both viewed from the outside.
Throughout the tour, I will share local history, legends, and insights that bring the city to life in an engaging and accessible way.
Please note that this tour focuses on exterior visits and storytelling; we do not enter the Cathedral or other indoor sites.

As a bilingual guide fluent in both English and Italian, I offer tours that are engaging, clear, and accessible to an international audience.
This allows Italian-speaking visitors in particular to fully connect with the history, culture, and stories of Newcastle in a more personal way.
I have worked in tourism for nearly 40 years, both as a tour guide and a travel agent and travelled all around our beautiful planet. But after the pandemic—and after moving to Newcastle—I found myself stepping away from the work I had always loved.
During that time, I was working indoors, in a fixed environment, surrounded by the same routine every day. For someone like me, that was incredibly challenging. I am naturally a free-spirited and creative person, and I realised how essential movement, people, and cultural exchange are for my wellbeing.
That is why I decided to return to my walking tours.
This is not just a job for me.
It is something much deeper. Walking, sharing art and culture, and meeting people from all over the world is what helps me stay balanced, present, and connected. These tours are part of my wellbeing—they give me energy, purpose, and a sense of freedom.
Every group is different. Every conversation is new. And that is exactly what I love.
