Artist Statement
My work explores the delicate balance between human creation and ecological change.
Through mixed media, I transform discarded and reclaimed materials such as recycled plastic, found objects, oil pastels, acrylics, and spray paint into layered visual narratives about the natural world.
Ocean life, fragile landscapes, and shifting textures often appear in my work, reflecting both beauty and loss. I explore the tension between destruction and regeneration, where nature is both vulnerable and resilient.
By reusing materials, I give waste a second life inside the artwork, turning it into a visual language of memory, change, and transformation.
I’m happy to share that my work has just been featured in Insights of an Eco Artist in an article titled “Debris and Restoration: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s Material Ecology”, which explores my use of North Sea sand, seaweed, debris and mixed media to create what the author calls “physical archives of environmental harm” and reflects on how my practice weaves together climate anxiety, mental health, and quiet, restorative landscapes; you can read the full feature here: Debris and Restoration: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s Material Ecology.
