💬 Description
“The Last Flower” is part of Laura Bernardeschi Nelson’s ongoing series addressing climate change and environmental loss. The work depicts a forest engulfed in flames — dark trunks formed from real netting rise through layers of fiery reds, ochres, and black smoke. Amid the devastation, a single delicate blue flower stands resilient, symbolizing hope and regeneration despite destruction.
Nelson combines mixed media and found materials to deepen the physical texture and message of her art. The use of a net to form the burning tree trunks evokes the entanglement of nature in human-made consequences, while her expressive brushwork and color palette capture both chaos and beauty.
Each work in this series is a visual protest — a heartfelt call to protect the forests and the fragile life that depends on them.
