Description:
Where the Vines Meet the Sea is an expressive coastal dreamscape that blends cultivated land with wild ocean energy. Rolling vineyard rows descend in rhythmic strokes toward a golden shoreline, where flowers seem to dance and merge with seafoam. The waves curl with soft force, and the sky glows with painterly clouds in pinks, peaches, and gentle blues — a moment caught between day and dusk.
The artist used oil pastels with layered applications of palette knife work, building rich texture into the foreground — especially in the sea and floral areas. Soft scumbling and blending techniques in the sky and distant hills give a feeling of atmosphere and motion.
Crucially, the perspective in this piece is not true to life — and that’s entirely intentional. The angles of the vineyard, the tilt of the shoreline, and the elevated horizon have all been gently distorted to create a dreamlike, slightly surreal composition. This allows the viewer to step out of realism and into reverie — as if remembering a place that only ever half-existed in the real world.
This artwork was born from a blend of real-life walks along vineyard-fringed coasts and an imaginative reconstruction of how land, sky, and sea might meet in a moment of emotional clarity. It invites the viewer to linger, not measure.
