Dreamscapes in Oil Pastel: Where Dreams Take Root

Where Dreams Take Root

£690

Oil Pastel Dreamscape by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson

Where Dreams Take Root is an original dreamscape by Laura Bernardeschi Nelson, unfolding in a suspended world where time softens and reality loosens its hold. Pale, leafless trees stretch delicately across the composition, their silvered branches drifting through a sky washed in rose, violet, and embered light. They appear neither dormant nor alive, but caught in a quiet in-between state — as if emerging from memory or dissolving back into it.

The landscape below flows gently inward, forming a luminous passage that guides the viewer through the scene. Colours melt into one another with a hushed inevitability: warm oranges glow beneath cool lilacs, while soft greys anchor the dreamlike atmosphere. There is no horizon in the traditional sense, only a sense of passage — inward, downward, and beyond.

Rather than describing a place, the work evokes a psychological terrain. The trees act as witnesses or sentinels, their exposed roots and reaching limbs suggesting vulnerability, endurance, and the subconscious connections that bind inner and outer worlds. Space remains intentionally ambiguous, inviting the viewer to inhabit the scene emotionally rather than interpret it literally.

Executed in oil pastel, the surface retains a tactile softness, allowing gestures to remain visible and intimate. The final varnish deepens the chromatic harmony while preserving the ethereal quality of the marks, reinforcing the work’s sense of fragility and quiet intensity.

Where Dreams Take Root invites slow contemplation. It is a meditation on transition, inner landscapes, and the silent moments where imagination and memory quietly intertwine.
