Winter Constellations — Finding Light in the Quiet Season
There’s something magical about winter nights in Northumberland — the way the landscape seems to exhale, and the sky opens up into endless mystery. Winter Constellations was born from those moments of stillness, when the air is so crisp it almost rings, and the stars feel close enough to touch.
I wanted to capture not just what I saw, but what I felt — the quiet pulse of nature at rest, and the strange comfort in that stillness. Using oil pastels allowed me to build layers of color that feel alive: dusky violets and icy blues for the land, touches of gold and white for the distant, shimmering light. The strokes are gestural yet intentional, echoing the rhythm of the hills and the slow turning of the sky.
This piece continues my exploration of connection — between landscape and emotion, between the seen and the sensed. Where Whispers of Autumn celebrates movement and transition, Winter Constellations lingers in a pause. It’s about the beauty that remains even in the coldest season, the quiet light that guides us when everything else seems to sleep.
Sometimes, standing beneath the stars, I’m reminded that silence, too, can be full of meaning.
