Description

Whispers of the Gilded Wood draws the viewer into a shimmering forest alive with enchantment. At its heart stands a lone fairy, her gossamer wings catching glimmers of light that dance like golden leaves. Her delicate form is turned away, as if she’s listening—perhaps to the trees, perhaps to you.

Rendered in expressive oil pastels, the artwork merges gentle movement with bursts of color, drawing inspiration from the forest motifs and palette of Gustav Klimt. Textures melt and swirl around the figure, creating a layered dreamscape where each mark feels alive. Hints of gold, teal, and forest brown pulse with emotion, while white flecks fall like stardust.

This is a celebration of the mystical—the quiet power of being unseen, the deep calm of the woods, and the belief that magic lives just beyond what we understand.

Perfect For

Ideal for those who are drawn to the natural world, folklore, and feminine energy. This piece works beautifully in bedrooms, reading corners, or spiritual spaces. It invites quiet reflection and sparks the imagination in both adults and children.

The Silent Lantern

Artist: Laura Bernardeschi Nelson
Medium:Acrylic colours and Oil Pastels on Paper | Framed Size: 40 x 30 cm

She holds a lantern.
She holds a question.
And she’s not telling us either.

The Silent Lantern is a painting born in twilight—a moment just between forgetting and remembering. A blonde fairy, draped in white, glows like moonlight among the forest’s hush. She stands facing an old, hidden house, one that time has mostly swallowed. The walls are laced with ivy, and green shadows cling to every beam.

She doesn’t knock.
She doesn’t speak.
She just stands there, lamp raised, like someone searching for something long lost… or guarding something never meant to be found.

“She walks with silence in her hands.
Her light does not warm—only reveals.
And the house, half-asleep in leaves,
waits for the answer she never speaks.”

This work was created in oil pastels, a medium that lets me blur boundaries—between figure and setting, fantasy and nature. Inspired by the forest interiors and golden motifs of Gustav Klimt, I wanted to let the textures breathe and tell their own story. You can almost feel the moss, the rustling branches, the warmth of the fairy’s light in the stillness.

A Painting with Secrets

There’s a beautiful tension here: the figure is luminous and centered, yet we are shut out from her intention. Is she arriving or leaving? Watching or warning? Each viewer may find a different tale hidden in the brushstrokes.

This is art that lets your inner child speak. The part of you that used to walk into woods and pretend you were on a quest. That version of you hasn’t gone far.

Where to Place This Piece

In your home, The Silent Lantern becomes a portal—something to pause before, to wonder at. Ideal for spaces where you rest, reflect, or dream. Its quiet magic brings balance to busy rooms.

Final Thought

She may not answer your questions.
But she’ll keep them safe.

Mounted, framed, and ready to bring a whisper of otherworldly wonder into your space. A companion for those who know that magic often arrives without explanation.
