Kefalonia Travel Diary – Arrival in Lourdas
On the 24th of June, my husband (whom I lovingly call The Viking due to his striking resemblance to one) and I boarded a Jet2 flight from Newcastle to the sun-kissed island of Kefalonia. After 3 hours and 45 minutes in the air, we landed in Argostoli, welcomed by warm Mediterranean air and a friendly Jet2 representative who swiftly guided us to our hotel transfer. Less than an hour later, we arrived in Lourdas.
Lourdas (also spelt Lourdata) is a charming coastal village tucked along the southern coast of Kefalonia. Built on a hillside with sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and backed by the mighty Mount Ainos, this little slice of paradise immediately cast its spell on us. The atmosphere here is peaceful and laid-back, with traditional tavernas, cozy cafes, and the occasional music bar scattered along its winding paths.
Our hotel, Ardavani, was nestled among lush greenery—towering olive trees, tropical plants, even passion fruit vines weaving their way through the garden. And best of all: a beautiful swimming pool with warm, inviting water—a perfect welcome under the embrace of the Greek sun.

Eager to explore, we walked down to the beach. Lourdas Beach is everything you imagine when you dream of Greece. Awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and amenities, it’s a stretch of soft sand and smooth shingle, lapped by calm, crystal-clear waters.

The promenade that lines the beach is dotted with tavernas and cafes, the scent of grilled seafood mingling with the salty breeze. Sunbeds line the shore, waiting for sun worshippers and swimmers alike.

This was just the beginning—but already, we felt like we had stepped into a dream.
